July 29 - Dead of Summer

As the flowering season comes to an end, continue to deadhead your waning blooms, such as day lilies. Gently removing the flower heads helps to encourage repeat blooming. Some floral gardens require daily deadheading. Be sure to keep fallen leaves and debris picked up as they can be insect breeding grounds, and remove weeds which can take water from valuable plants.

Keep everything watered through the heat. Adding mulch helps to conserve moisture. Remove and divide spring perennials that have grown more than their area – and consider sharing with a neighbor.
